WayV’s Xiaojun and Red Velvet Wore Similar Outfits, But Had Totally Different Vibes

Looks were served on both sides.

When teaser images for NCT‘s 2021 comeback were released earlier this month, fans noticed that WayV‘s Xiaojun wore an outfit in the album’s track video for”Miracle” that looked somewhat familiar. In fact, it looks a lot like the outfits worn by Red Velvet during their “Peek-A-Boo” era in 2017! Both Xiaojun and the members of Red Velvet wore fun rainbow prints, but had totally different vibes.

Xiaojun wore a rainbow-colored sweater that stood out from other, darker outfits worn by WayV in much of the “Miracle” track video, which actually had a fun, almost comic-book like vibe to it.

He really seemed to lean into this vibe, posting some pictures to his Instagram account that showed the outfit more clearly—and proved that he was absolutely slaying the look.

But, while Red Velvet wore similar rainbow outfits in their “Peek-A-Boo” music video, their vibes were totally different. Rather than the chill tone of “Miracle,” “Peek-A-Boo” seems to have drawn inspiration from classic Hollywood horror themes, with the members of Red Velvet even abducting and hunting down a pizza delivery man.

Their bright rainbow outfits provide a great visual contrast to the slightly darker plot of the music video, making it all the more intriguing!

When Xiaojun’s teaser image for “Miracle” came out this month, fans pointed out how similar his outfit looked to the iconic Red Velvet rainbow looks, and it’s hard to disagree…

…especially, when looking at Red Velvet’s performance on Inkigayo. Irene, in particular, had a similar outfit to Xiaojun, as she also wore a long-sleeved rainbow piece!

While the colors of Red Velvet’s dresses were much brighter than Xiaojun’s more muted rainbow sweater, the concept that Red Velvet went for in “Peek-A-Boo” was actually much darker than WayV’s in “Miracle”—so the fit may have been very similar, but the vibes were ultimately totally different! But one thing fans can definitely agree on is that both absolutely nailed the look.
