NCT Dream’s Haechan Has Color Amblyopia, Here’s What That Means

It’s not quite the same as being colorblind.

Since NCT debuted back in 2016, there are some facts about the members that they may have never known about. One of them that’s recently been taking fans by surprise is Haechan‘s admission of having color amblyopia.

During NCT Dream’s promotions for “We Go Up”, the group had a special MUGI-BOX episode hosted by Doyoung. When they were sharing their concerns, Haechan revealed that he’d been debating on whether or not to fix his broken cell phone. Chenle questioned him, “Not working?”

Haechan tried to explain what the problem was. “Half of the screen… it’s got a different color.” While the average person would be quick to fix such a problem, it wasn’t a big deal at all for him. He then revealed why.

He nonchalantly admitted, “I have color amblyopia, so it doesn’t really bother me.” With that in mind, it would be easy to think it’s merely colorblindness. That’s not quite it.

Common amblyopia means that one eye has poorer vision than the other, which causes the brain to instead focus on the visuals from the better one. Although there aren’t many definitions for color amblyopia, it seems to mean that the brain tries to balance the visuals from both eyes, with one eye seeing color more vividly than the other.

Taking into account that Haechan isn’t bothered from different colors on one screen, his eyes are most likely fusing the two visuals from both of his eyes, which could cause him to confuse the colors or see one visual of them.

Fortunately, it’s not something life-threatening to worry about. If Haechan could see the difference between the two sides of his broken phone, he can definitely see various colors.

When it comes to these things, everyone’s situations and experiences are different. Watch Haechan reveal the fact that quite a few NCTzens hadn’t known about until now.
