“Squid Game” Actor Lee Jung Jae Makes History At The Emmys By Winning The Award For Lead Actor

Actor Lee Jung Jae became the first Asian actor and the first actor from a foreign-language show to win lead actor in a drama at the Emmy Awards when the actor won the award at the 74th Primetime Emmy Award. Lee Jung Jae won the award over industry heavyweights Jason Bateman (Ozark), Bob Odenkirk (Better Call Saul), and Brian Cox (Succession).

The award show, held on September 12, featured the very best in television and streaming. Netflix‘s international hit K-Drama Squid Game was nominated for 14 Emmy awards and picked up four wins.

Also winning an Emmy was the director of Squid Game, who took home the award for best Drama Director. The show also won the award for guest acting, stunt performance, production design, and visual effects.

Actor Park Hae Soo and Oh Young Soo were nominated for best-supporting actor, and Jung Ho Yeon was nominated for best supporting-actress, which were won by Matthew Macfayden of Succession and Julia Garner of Ozark, respectively. Actress Lee You Mi won the award for Guest Actress for her performance as Ji Yeong on Squid Game.

Squid Game was also nominated for best drama, which was won by HBO‘s massive hit, Succession.
