He delved deep into difficult topics.

Singer-songwriter eaJ (also known as Jae Park or DAY6‘s Jae) is coming clean.

On May 24, eaJ officially released Season 2 of his DIVE StudiosMindset collection, and he got into a lot of serious topics.

In Season 2, Episode 1 “What a Year,” eaJ briefly reflected on the period of time since he released his first Mindset collection. And, immediately, he acknowledged the elephant in the room.

I got canceled a few times. That was… quite an experience, and it wasn’t just a few times. I think it was — mm, there was a lot. There was a lot of things that happened over the past 12-ish years that I’ve been in Korea and worked in Korea.

During this period, he officially departed from JYP Entertainment and has been on hiatus from DAY6. He also moved back to the United States.

Hello My Day.

I am sincerely grateful for everyone who has been with DAY6 and me. For the past six years, I have had a very happy time and made memories that will last forever with me. I have had a lot of thoughts and ideas, and put in a lot of work, but I am still lacking in many ways, so I can’t stay where I am right now.

After discussing with JYP, I am sorry to tell you that we have made the decision for me to take a break from DAY6’s activities for the time being. I will cherish the memories, from the sweat and journeys together to the crying and rejoice that we felt for the past six years. and will return more improved. This has been DAY6’s Jae.

Thank you!

He has officially rebranded himself as “eaJ,” releasing new music, which he previously teased as 88rising‘s 2021 Head in the Clouds festival.

But as he mentioned at the beginning, he has been far from free of controversies. In fact, eaJ has been “canceled” quite a few times. Perhaps, his most high-profile incident was when he made a “derogatory remark” about former labelmate and friend JAMIE during one of his Twitch live streams. He has since apologized to both MyDays (fans of DAY6) and JAMIE personally, and according to JAMIE herself, the two have also “talked it out.”

Still, many found it difficult to forgive and forget as they felt as though eaJ had shown his “true colors.” So, for many netizens, he has remained “canceled.”

But eaJ is well aware of all that. In Episode 1 “What a Year,” he continued to reflect, saying he knows he has hurt people although he never intended to.

There have been a lot of people that I have hurt. There have been a lot of misunderstandings. But at the end of the day, I just truly do want, and have always wanted to do the right things.

— eaJ

He assured listeners that he would not be shying away from the hard topics involving his controversies and that he would talk in detail in more episodes. Also, eaJ apologized for his actions.

I’m gonna talk more about the incidents in future episodes, but, for now, just know that I once again apologize for everyone that I’ve made feel a certain way through my actions.

— eaJ

And sure enough, eaJ immediately delved into it the following couple of episodes. In Season 2, Episode 2 “A Letter to my Fans,” he began the episode expressing to his fans his gratitude for them sticking with him through it all.

I can’t begin to express enough how much it means to me that there is someone out there who believes in me, no matter how flawed I am, whether I make mistakes.

— eaJ

Most of all, eaJ owned up to his mistakes. He recognized that his words had been “careless” and “reckless” and that anyone bothered by it deserves to be.

There have been times where I was careless, reckless with my words, and you might have gotten hurt by my actions. I’ve caused all of you a lot of pain because of the things I’ve said or done. And I just want to let you know that things that you are upset about, the things that you guys have a problem with me about, they’re all valid.

— eaJ

While acknowledging his mistakes, eaJ again apologized. Although, he understood that not everyone might accept his apologies.

I’ve made mistakes, and I acknowledge that. Even if you don’t want to hear it at all or any more, I’m sorry.

— eaJ

He concluded the episode by sincerely thanking his fans again. Their support has helped him through difficult times.

Thank you for caring about me enough to, you know, call me out when I mess up so that I know. As long as I own up to it and you know I’m trying, you guys accept me, and that means more than I could ever explain.

— eaJ

Again, eaJ reiterated the importance they have in his life. He is especially thankful for their forgiveness.

And thank you, again, for always giving me another chance to show you that I can be better than that — that those mistakes don’t define who I am as a person. And, not for the chance itself, but because of — because of you. Because you’re still there. Because you are important to me. You problem don’t even know how much hope and inspiration you give me every single day.

— eaJ

In Episode 3 of Season 2, “Friends Keep You in Check,” he talked more in-depth about recent incidents, particularly involving JAMIE. He explained the situation and aftermath. Like Episode 2, he talked about how he is grateful for those who call him out for his mistakes. In this case, his friends like JAMIE.
