The nominations for the 2021 Webby Awards are in, and BTS features in four of them!
Established in 1996 by the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences, the Webby Awards celebrate excellence on the internet. Websites, online videos, apps, games, advertising, podcasts, and social content are all eligible for a range of awards. Last year’s 24th Annual Webby Awards saw major stars like Miley Cyrus and Kristen Bell take home “Webby Special Achievement” trophies.
Now, BTS is joining the nominations list. In fact, the group features in four of this year’s nominations. Their first is in the newly established “Virtual & Remote – Music” category, where Kiswe is nominated for MAP OF THE SOUL ON:E, the group’s 2020 online concert. The innovative concert was produced with Kiswe’s state-of-the-art live streaming technology and drew in a staggering 993,000 viewers from 191 countries, making it one of the world’s most successful streaming events.
Next, ViacomCBS Digital received a nomination in the “General Video – Variety & Reality” category for “BTS Carpool Karaoke”. Racking up 74 million views in the last year, the iconic video saw the BTS members sing and joke with comedian James Corden for The Late Late Show, introducing numerous new ARMYs to the fandom.
Finally, BTS participated in two productions nominated under the “General Video – Events & Live Streams” category. The first is “Dear Class of 2020” (Rogers & Cowan PMK), where BTS performed and served as commencement speakers.
The second is “HomeFest: James Corden’s Late Late Show Special” (ViacomCBS Digital), where BTS performed alongside the likes of Billie Eilish and Dua Lipa.
Each category is presented with two honors: The Webby Award and The Webby People’s Voice Award. The Webby Award is judged by a panel of International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences members, while The Webby People’s Voice Award is based on votes from fans around the world. ARMYs can vote for BTS’s videos on the official Webby Awards website (one time per category) until May 6 at 11:59 Pacific Time.
The 2021 Webby Awards winners will be revealed in a virtual ceremony on Tuesday, May 18, where all winners will follow the Webby Awards tradition of limiting their speeches to five words.
