These Idols Have The Same Name, But They’re Impossible To Mix Up

The Minhos need no introduction.

Sometimes fans, especially ones new to K-pop, become puzzled with idols who have the same names; for instance, Minhyuk from Monsta XMinhyuk of BTOB, Minhyuk of CNBLUE and ASTRO‘s Minhyuk are spelt identically. However, there are certain idols that have the same name but are impossible to mix up – because they have such different talents, visuals, and even slightly different stage names. The famous “Minhos” are some such celebrities – although there are several, they’re all well-known in South Korean entertainment for very different reasons.

1. Choi Minho (SHINee)

Choi Minho is arguably the most internationally recognized of the Minhos, having been a member of top boy group SHINee since 2008, a successful actor since his drama debut in 2010, and an ambassador during the 2017 “Girls Play 2” campaign at the US embassy in Korea, attended by First Lady of the United States Melania Trump, an event organised to promote the 2018 Winter Olympics.

Not only that, he’s a skilled rapper, singer, dancer and lyricist, having written many of the rap lyrics in SHINee’s songs since debut. He takes after his father, who was a professional soccer player and coach, and led his team to victory in the Idol Futsal World Cup Competition.

Plus, he has unique visuals and a well-known physique that rivals body builders!

2. Lee Minho

As a huge Hallyu star, heartthrob actor Lee Minho needs no introduction to long-time Korean drama fans, who first met him in the hit 2009 drama Boys Over Flowers. Like SHINee’s Minho, he wanted to be a professional football player when he was younger, but an injury turned him to acting.

Since his breakthrough, he’s had a prolific acting career in South Korea and China, and even released two musical extended plays for his fans – although he’s stated he has no interest in pursuing a musical career.

Lee Minho received the “Prime Minister Award” at the 5th Korean Popular Culture & Arts Awards for his contribution to Hallyu.

3. Song Minho (Winner’s Mino)

Mino is a rapper, songwriter, producer and has been a member of Winner since the group’s debut in 2014, after participating in the survival show WIN: Who Is Next. He’s also well-known as an underground rapper and runner up on Show Me the Money 4.

He’s produced a lot of music with other underground-rappers-turned-idols such as Block B’s Zico and is part of a duo with iKON‘s Bobby called MOBB.

4. Lee Minho (Stray Kids’ Lee Know)

As the youngest Minho, Lee Know entered the spotlight in 2017 under his real name after competing in – and being eliminated from – JYP Entertainment‘s survival show Stray Kids.

He’s known for his dancing skills, as he was first a backup dancer for BTS during their Japan tour and was featured in BTS’s “Not Today” MV as a backup dancer.

5. Lee Minho (BOOM)

Better known as Boom, this Lee Minho is a rapper, singer, actor, radio host, and television presenter and is known for his comedy shows.

He’s the oldest of the Minhos, having been born in 1982, and originally started his career as a hip-hop artist. He became well-known for his comedy after appearing on variety shows and became a regular MC in 2008.

He achieved widespread fame when he began to appear as a regular guest on SBS‘s Strong Heart with Super Junior‘s Leeteuk, Eunhyuk and Shindong as participants of his hosted segment “Boom Academy”.

His FM Power radio show “Boom Boom Power” is extremely popular, and has even allowed him to meet one of the other Minhos!
