4 K-Pop Idols Who Were Criticized By Netizens For Lying

Numbers 1 and 3 did some insane acts.

Netizens can be quite harsh on K-Pop idols, as idols have been criticized in the past for many things, such as dating. Idols have also faced criticism from some netizens for being untruthful. Here are a few K-Pop idols who got criticized by netizens for lying.

1. Jaejoong (JYJ)

Jaejoong made a lot of headlines when he “confirmed” that he had contracted Coronavirus (COVID-19).

I have contracted Coronavirus.

It was careless of me to live disregarding all of the cautions provided by the government and those around me.

Just how big could one individual’s behavior impact all of society be…

I am sorry to those who could have been infected by me.

The stupid judgments I made, it’s how I became like this. I lived thinking it would never happen to me.

I am currently hospitalized.

I currently feel grateful and apologetic, reflecting on my past.

There are so many things I want to say…

There are so many people I want to see…

— Jaejoong

However, Jaejoong made even more headlines when he revealed that everything was just an April Fools joke. This didn’t sit well with netizens, as both Japanese and Korean netizens harshly criticized him for making such a “joke”. All of Jaejoong’s activities in Japan were also canceled due to this scandal.

2. Jessica (Former member of Girls’ Generation)

When it was reported in 2016 that Jessica would be making her solo debut in Korea, netizens weren’t too happy. Many netizens criticized Jessica for attempting to make a comeback in Korea, and for lying about her career decisions after she left Girls’ Generation.

3. Yewon (Former member of Jewelry)

In 2015, reports came out that an incident had occurred between Lee Tae Im and Yewon, where Yewon was talking informally to Lee Tae Im, which caused Lee Tae Im to start cursing at Yewon. Yewon would later deny these claims, as she stated that she never talked informally to Lee Tae Im.

A video was later leaked showing the incident. The video revealed that Yewon had spoken informally to Lee Tae Im, which caused Lee Tae Im to start cursing at Yewon. After finding out that Yewon had lied about her statements, many netizens harshly criticized her.

4. Sunye (Former member of Wonder Girls)

In 2012, Sunye announced that she was going to get married to her current husband, James Park, who is a Korean-Canadian.

Sunye then decided to step down from Wonder Girls before her contract had expired. Sunye also shared her plans of living in Canada for some time. Many netizens criticized her for these actions, as they felt that she was just abandoning her group by not finishing out her contract.

When it was revealed that Sunye was signing with an entertainment company to make her comeback as a celebrity, netizens went off on her, as they had believed that Sunye was going to spend her life as a non-celebrity.

Bonus: MC Mong

MC Mong might not be a K-Pop idol, but he too has been criticized harshly in the past for lying. In 2010, it was reported that MC Mong had purposefully pulled out several of his teeth in an attempt to dodge his mandatory military service. MC Mong would deny these claims, as he stated that the teeth were only pulled out due to poor health. However, many netizens viewed his statements as lies and criticized him for his actions. While MC Mong was later cleared of charges that he intentionally pulled out his teeth to avoid his military, he was found guilty of deliberately delaying his military enlistment on false grounds. To this day, MC Mong is criticized for his actions.
