10+ K-Pop Idols That Seem To Get Favoritism In Their Groups, According To Fans

Is company favoritism to blame?

Oftentimes in K-Pop groups, some members seem to get more attention and spotlight than other members. Whether this is due to them being more talented than others, having “better” visuals, being more well-known due to acting and advertising gigs, and/or due to company favoritism for various reasons, fans agree that these 10+ idols definitely seem to outshine the rest of their group sometimes. While this is of course not the most desirable set-up for a K-Pop group with many talented members, it’s also not the fault of the idols themselves, so no hate should be directed towards them!

1. Seolhyun (AOA)

Even though Seolhyun became extremely popular among the members of AOA and was granted more opportunities than others due to her visuals, she didn’t leave the group to pursue a solo career (which she could have easily done), which is admirable!

2. Soyeon ((G)I-DLE)

Soyeon is incredibly talented as a performer, producer, and rapper, and there’s no doubt that she ends up with more lines and center time than other members of (G)I-DLE. But since she is part of the song production and helps distribute lines, (G)I-DLE’s line distribution isn’t as uneven as it could be in this kind of situation!

3. Yoojung & Doyeon (Weki Meki)

These two girls already had a large fandom thanks to Produce 101 and I.O.I by the time they joined Weki Meki, so it’s no surprise that they ended up with more center time than the rest. Fortunately, this does seem to have gotten better in more recent comebacks.

4. Taeyong (NCT)

Between stunning visuals, great rapping skills, and excellent performance ability, Taeyong has the whole package, and the amount of lines and center positions he gets shows this. But the other members of NCT are very talented as well, so hopefully as time goes on they will have more time to shine too!

5. Jennie (BLACKPINK)

There’s, of course, a lot of controversy over Jennie’s “favoritism”, such as claiming she gets the best outfits, most appearances and opportunities, and has been the only member of BLACKPINK to have a solo so far. None of this is her fault, however, and the amount of hate she’s received because of it is unfair.

6. Suzy (Miss A)

Unfortunately, Suzy is the only member that many fans of K-Pop know from Miss A, due to her other many opportunities from acting and advertising. Of course, fans of the group know that the other members deserve equal attention, though!

7. Eunwoo (ASTRO)

Like Suzy, Eunwoo is the member of ASTRO that a lot of more casual fans know of due to his acting opportunities and popular visuals. ASTRO as a whole, however, has a great discography and some incredible dances, and the other members deserve appreciation too!

8. Rowoon (SF9)

Like Eunwoo, Rowoon is almost more well-known for his acting and visuals than his status as a K-Pop idol, with many people maybe not even knowing that he’s a member of SF9. Fortunately, the group seems to finally be getting more popular after the release of “Good Guy”, so hopefully this will change!

9. Taemin (SHINee)

While all of the members of SHINee have had various opportunities in acting, advertising, and solo work, Taemin has had the most heavy marketing and most extensive solo career, not to mention he was the only member of the group chosen to be in SuperM. He’s an incredibly talented idol, but so are Onew, Key, and Minho!

10. Mino (WINNER)

Like some other groups, K-Pop fans that don’t stan WINNER might have only heard of Mino rather than other members due to his solo career and more frequent appearance in media. But of course, like with every other group on this list, WINNER members deserve more recognition as a whole!
